Project Description

The Gil Hodges community garden is located in Brooklyn, New York.  The new community garden serves not only as a location for community gardeners, but also serves as an outdoor classroom for students and adults to learn the benefits of local gardening along with storm water management and on site storm water retention.  Major design elements include a rain garden which collects on site water runoff, permeable pavements, recycled concrete, raised vegetable gardens, on site composting containers, and a shed structure that incorporates collecting rain water from the roof and dispersing it into the rain garden through a gentle cascade of water.
